Crabs!

Everytime we go home to Muar, most of our meals would be eaten in my dad's good friend's restaurant "Chuan Tin Restaurant". His restaurant's been reviewed several times by Singaporean food critics and Chinese newspapers and he's famous for his suckling pig, sharks fin, Monk Jumped Over the Wall and many other Hokkien dishes.

Of course we weren't there for such elaborate dishes! We had just come down from KL, gone straight to the hospital to visit my Mama and hadn't been home to shower yet. So, for a treat, my dad ordered crabs.

My dad's friend does an interesting version of "kok chim" or roasted crabs. They come out with a nice, smokey flavour with a hint of butter and caramelised onions. These were pretty big crabs and I just love their pretty red colour!

My lucky sister got the biggest pincher! Never seen such a big pincher in local crabs before! It was like a Sri Lankan crab! The glass was next to it for comparison :)

With the crabs, we had Indian mee. It was fried "mee goreng" style with lots of bean sprouts and prawns.
And because we were craving for soup, we had a fish soup too. The fish was lightly fried, then cooked with tofu, tomatoes and salted vegetable. It had a nice sourish taste....delicious!

Min, what's explicit?! *innocence* Thanks for your comment! hehe...

Tian, thanks for dropping by! It's not mui choy. Rather, it's the preserved choy sum...we call it "kiam chye" in Hokkien, not sure about Cantonese...

Tian, I finally found the word! It's ham choy! :)

Yum, those crabs look delicious. I so rarely eat them that looking at them is making me drool for some!

Boo, I'm not too much of a crab person but my family definitely enjoyed them! It's a different style from those normally found in KL places.
